Jessamine County Public Library

Nicholasville, KY

Completed 1996 / Renovation& Addition 2004

The scope of the project was a new one story 18,560 SF building to satisfy the needs of the Library over the next 10 years. The circulation flow and organization was designed to provide the most contiguous open stack space possible. The open program areas will allow for the most flexibility in the future as various parts of the collection grow, possibly at different rates. The building is located at the front of its new site along Main Street, with parking areas terracing down the lot to the rear of the building. The design features two main entrances marked by covered porches, one from Main Street and one from the parking area. These entrances connect through the building as a Gallery space. Off the Gallery is located the doors to the Library proper, the Public Meeting Room, the Regional Librarian's Office, the Director's Office and Conference Room as well as the public restrooms. This Gallery allows for use of the Meeting Rooms after hours and is generously sized to function as a usable space for exhibitions, receptions for Meeting Room activities, and an area for the Friends of the Library book sales.
