Christ Church Cathedral

Lexington, KY

27,000 s.f. renovation + 22,000 s.f. new construction

The scope of the project was to renovate the existing 27,000 SF facility and construct a new 22,000 SF addition to the present church built in 1847 and 1863. The auxiliary facilities were constructed in 1912 and 1948. The building addition includes a Great Hall with full kitchen, Welcoming Center, bookstore, new Sacristy, new church offices, elevator, and accessible restrooms. Also, a new Youth Activities Center includes a library, computer room, multi-purpose room, assembly hall and kitchenette. The space between the existing building and the new addition is created to provide both a physical and visual connection between the new addition, the existing church, the meeting facilities, and the garden. The goal was to create an addition that would be respectful of the historical structure by utilizing similar proportions and materials. A new connecting drive and covered drop-off was constructed for ease of access to the new facility.
